Here’s what I think about Biden’s submarine deal with Australia and France’s angry reaction:

Fact: Australia fears China’s military expansion into the sea that Australia needs to traverse.

Fact: France was supposed to produce non-nuclear powered submarines to Australia to defend against China’s advances.

Fact: France is putting a lot of energy into its trading relationship with China where it hopes it will get a billion new customers for French products.

Hunch: Some portion of the French government was slowing the production of those submarines as part of a deal with China.

Fact: Biden circumvented the deal by selling nuclear powered subs to Australia.

Evidence: When Judy Woodruff interviewed the French Ambassador on 9/16/21, she gave him a perfect opening for him to say Biden’s action made France distrustful of America, but instead he said, “There is a trust problem.” When she asked if trust can be reestablished, he responded in the affirmative but added that work needs to be done. He never allowed anyone to be able to interpret his words as implying shady behavior by the U.S. He closed by saying France should step up and lead in the relief efforts for Afghanistan.

Does that sound like someone who’s been, “stabbed in the back,” or, like someone who’s been caught?
